WHY TRY THIS RESOURCE

The skills that don’t always show up in written work

Some children organise the group. Some notice when someone needs help. Some have brilliant ideas but rarely put their hand up.

The Communication taster gives those strengths a place to shine. Easy to run and easy to slot into the school day, it gives every child the chance to contribute, while building confidence, teamwork and communication through hands-on activity.

How it works in the classroom

1. Open with the presentation

Children explore what communication is and the many ways we do it.

2. Run an activity

Pick Mirror Drawing, Go Fetch, or both. Step-by-step instructions in the teacher notes show you how to complete the activities, in minutes.

3. Reflect together

A short, guided reflection joins up what they did with how they communicate as a learner and a leader.

About the Shape Your Skills Award

Shape Your Skills is a whole-class personal development award that helps primary pupils discover their strengths, build confidence and develop practical, transferable skills. All delivered through structured, hands-on experiences that fit naturally into your existing school day.

The Confidence taster lesson is a block from our full award programme.

What schools say about the award…

Layla, age 9, Woodmancote Primary

Paul Adkin, Year 6 Teacher, Woodmancote Primary

“It’s very, very easy to deliver. The resources are very high quality. It’s easy to fit the award into the curriculum areas we teach.”

Gary Tucker, Head Teacher, Woodmancote Primary

“The Shape Your Skills Award enabled children to develop a set of skills that the normal taught curriculum doesn’t really cover.”
