Activity: Go Fetch

Objective

  • How good are you at listening to and following instructions?

  • Your task is to work with your partner to ‘go fetch’ and bring back as many items as you can in the time allowed.

  • You’ll have to listen very carefully as you move around the area, collecting the required items, with only your partner’s verbal instructions to guide you.

Instructions

1/ In your pair, decide who will wear the blindfold and who will give the instructions.

2/ If you are the non-blindfolded learner you must give verbal instructions to guide your partner to each selected item in turn, so they can find it and bring it back with them, before going for the next item.

3/ The blindfolded learner can’t see where they are going or where the items they must collect are.

Ready?

Steady?

GO!

Well done!

To complete this challenge:

  • The non-blindfolded player had to use a nice loud voice and give clear instructions to guide their partner to the correct items.

  • The blindfolded player had to listen carefully to what they were being told and trust their partner as they found and retrieved the items.

Reflect

  • How did you use verbal communication to share messages accurately and clearly?

  • Why is using clear and accurate messaging important as a leader?
